Default Dodge Challenger R/T reliability

I'm looking at possibly getting a Challenger R/T this winter as a secondary car. Are there any years I should try to avoid, any engine problems I should be aware of, any platform/suspension/steering issues to be aware of. I have heard of some occasional issues with valve seat failures, timing chains failures, and broken valve springs. How do I avoid these problems? Also is the 6 speed manual reliable? Thanks.

The 5.7 Hemi was built to lat 300,000 miles. The six speed is very reliable. It also depends on how you drive it and how you maintain it as with any vehicle.

There is a recall on the 09+ 5.7 for timing chain (specifically the tensioner). Just check to see if it's been done on any car you look at, or you can arrange to get it done once you have the vehicle (it's free, but be prepared to lose the vehicle for a day or two). Otherwise, the hemi will last pretty much as long as you take care of it.
