Burnt Fuel Pump Connector, Gas Smell
I think you all might want to check your fuel pump connectors. On my 2014 Chrysler 300C and I suspect it may be the same for the Challenger, I had gas smell inside my cabin and after refueling had raw gas pouring out under the car on the driver side. Pulled the rear seat and found a puddle of gas on top of the fuel pump. Further investigation showed the fuel pump connector had burnt and melted the plastic around the pin causing gas to leak after fill up as the pump sits lower than the top of the tank. I changed the pump only to have it happen again 5 months later. I went to a junk yard and checked a 2007 Chrysler 300 and 2014 Charger, both had the same issue. Further investigation revealed the cause of the connector pins heating up was from people sitting in the back seat that actually cracked the plastic cover and must have wiggled the connector causing the pins to heat up. I upgraded the fuel pump cover to an aluminum cover plate and now after 13 months, have not had any further issues. You can get the upgraded fuel pump cover at: www.fuelconnectorfire.com
