May be other reasons in there as well. Auto trans doesn't hit the driveline as hard as a manual can, so, may be something else in the driveline as the limiting factor, or, it may just be a manual trans would torque the unibody too much. Or, it may be, that the manual trans simply isn't popular enough that the beancounters didn't wanna spend the money on development to put a manual in the car.
