Arrow Pumping Gas/ Shut Off Question

Looking for assistance when refueling. Should the lever on the gas nozzle be depressed fully for the pump shut off to work? All replies are appreciated.

I think it varies by pump. Some are more sensitive than others. When I fill the tank on my truck, I lock the handle as wide open as I can, and then wait...... for quite a while...... 34 gallon tank will do that for ya. Only time I will hand-regulate fill rate, is if I am NOT filling it up, and just putting in a few bucks.
