in a heart beat. I love the look of it, and like Pat says though, it would have to be under 30k. But by the time it comes out, I should be debt free. So then I would think again if it was over 30k.

ORIGINAL: ViperGTS

how are you comparing a 3 series, a elise, and a challenger?!?!?
Sorry, not the Elise, the Exige. It's a v4 but still pulls off 4.4 seconds 0-60. I was comparing them price wise.

but why are you even here.
I've always have asked myself that, but have never been able to answer it. Fate maybe? Dunno

Price wise? The Exige is 51k and the M3 is close to that mark. The price on those 2 are much higher than the Challenger should be. They aren't even similar vehicles. The Exige is a mid engine touring model utilized primarilly through the hills in the UK, the M3 is meant for road course racing like the Le Mans, and the Challenger is straight line speed, and raw power. The Viper you're so fond of is in the happy median of road course racer and straight line speed.

I intend on buying an exige or VX220 next year, but the challenger is a less expensive car. If I were in the market for a V8 powered monster it'd definitely be the Challenger, that or a VXR Monaro(GTO). As for the motor, it's an inline 4, they don't make them in V's for anything other than a bike. The motor in the Exige and the VX220 is the one from the Celica GT-S, and as some of you may know I love the Celica and virtually all things Toyota so it's something most people could easily see me buying.

Back on topic if I did buy another Dodge it'd definitely be the Challenger. That is one crazy machine. I wasn't thrilled when the Charger was released as a 4 door, but this Challenger coupe would be right up my alley if I just wanted raw power. However my favorite cars are vehicles like the exige, celica gt4, and rx-7 so......

Hey, why is everyone assuming the new Challenger won't handle? Geeze, just because it's got a Hemi up front it's a quarter mile queen? My "73 with a 340 Ralleye Pack was no slouch when it came to handling and this car will come with modern LX underpinnings. Driven the new Charger or even the Magnum yet? These cars are quite capable in the handling department. I for one think that DCX will be looking to trim poundage off the Challenger to make it a well rounded driver. DCX is making world class vehicles and is right there with some of the "elite" brands. They're not going to bring a slouch to the market where this car is concerned!

looking at the pictures and knowing what is going to be under the hood makes me worry about weight distribution. The chances of it handling like a Lotus Exige in nil, can't compare a mid engine I4 with a front mounted V8. And the M3, well it's an M3.

There ARE cars that DO handle quite well with V/8's even V/12's up front. I'm not saying that the new Challenger will handle like a Exige but I can have a practicle car that's a blast to drive for half the money. And while the BMW may be more practicle than the Exige I can still own 2 exciting vehicles for the money I pay for the pleasure of driving 1 BMW. I'm talking bang for my buck and I think people are going to be very surprised at this cars capabilities when it arrives.

I think deranged is right. The LX platform overall, creates a pretty solid, well balanced handler. I don't anticipate the Challenger weighing that much less than the Charger so the dynamics should be fairly similar. Also, the 6 speed adds a dimension of driver control that the "autostick" does not.

Anyway, I'd prefer to just fry the hides myself

Thats why they may build it, to go head to head with the Stang and get back into the pony car/muscle car market. Also by bringing those new car/first time buyer/fast and furious wanna bees, Honda/Acura/Toyota buyers to take a second look at the US offerings I think its a great idea and cant wait for them to build it!
