Unhappy Blown Head Gasket Repair

Good afternoon,

So I have a 2017 Challenger SXT with 54K miles. Besides basic car maintenance I haven't had any issues with the car since I purchased it in 2017. I have little to no mods besides a mid and rear muffler delete (I regret) and a cold air intake. A couple of weeks ago I got a check engine light for the engine thermostat. So I ordered the part and replaced it and topped off the coolant (bled the system too). A week goes by and all of a sudden my radiator has a penny size hole on the inner side and my engine completely overheats, coolant everywhere. I assumed maybe I didn't bleed the system correctly and had a bubble. Either way me and my dad replaced the radiator and all seems to run well for another week. That's when it overheated AGAIN and was gushing coolant our of the emergency drip out of the coolant reservoir. Got it towed at that point to a shop only to find out that they believe the head gasket is blown with good amount of damage. estimated repair is $5200, OR they mention finding another rebuilt engine for somewhat cheaper (didn't give a price because their seller wasn't available). I do trust this shop overall and aren't doubting what they see. I just wanted to see if someone has dealt with a rebuilt 3.6L V6 regardless of the year as well as if anyone has gone through with a blown head gasket repair and if other issues occurred. Even if you haven't had this problem I'd like to know your thoughts.

Thanks again,

Kevin.

If coolant got in to the oil, chances are good that JUST doing the headgaskets won't be enough. Bearings will have gotten wiped out, cylinder walls may be scored, etc..... If a replacement is actually cheaper, AND they will offer some variety of warranty on the engine/their work, I think that's the route I would take.
