Default How bad were the 3.5 liter engines?

I see articles online stating they were bad sludge monsters. I’m interested in a 2010 challenger with 130k miles, were they really that bad? I think they get conflated with the 2.7 by a lot of people.

The engines themselves are fine. Keep up on maintenance and they'll survive. The majority of their problems comes from the things attached to them. Electronics issues, waterpumps failing, besides that, the actual engines are fine. Timing belt needs to be changed at 100k and most people do the water pumps while they have it apart.

Just don't expect it to be a hotrod.
