Default Not sure what is going on...

Hello all.

OK, so I have posted how my reverse lights and my rear camera do not come on when I put the car in reverse.

Well, the following occurred on a dark, cloudy evening.

I put the car in reverse, and just so happened my wife walked around the back of the car, and the reverse monitoring system came on AND the camera and reverse lights came on also. WIERD!

So long story short, now I have to play with reverse when I engage it. meaning I have to put it in reverse a few times to get it right for the camera and the reverse lights to come on. usually 2-3 times i have to engage reverse for them to come on. 2019 6-speed manual. Why?

IDK what is going on. Any ideas?

thx

My know-it-all friend GOOG AI says:

Intermittent rear camera issues on the 2019 Dodge Challenger (including Tremec manual models) are often caused by faulty camera wiring in the trunk lid, loose connectors, or software glitches covered by a recall
. Fixes include checking the trunk wiring harness, reseating the camera connector, and updating the radio software.
Key Troubleshooting Steps:
  • Check for Recalls: Verify if your vehicle had the 2019-2020 Rearview Camera Software recall (W30-W37) performed, which addressed issues with the image remaining on screen or not displaying.
  • Inspect Wiring Harness: The wires running through the trunk hinge can become damaged or frayed over time.
  • Reseat/Clean Connectors: Remove the trunk liner to access the camera connector. Unplugging and replugging it can resolve issues caused by moisture or loose pins.
  • Check Fuses: Inspect the 10-amp fuse responsible for the rear camera.
  • Replace Camera Unit: If the camera fails entirely or shows a black/blue screen, the camera module itself may need replacement.
If the camera goes out after closing the trunk, it is likely a pinched or loose wire in the trunk lid.

No too long ago I took my 2011 RT in for an oil change and was surprised that there were two recall items in addition to the one that I knew about (driver side airbag). The dealer was able to fix all three. You can check for recalls with your VIN here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehic...ls/search.html
