RE: SuperHEMI needed
Last time i saw the GT500 wasnt even coming close to hitting that 500HP mark, and as for the Camaro nothing is even certain on it thus far. I'm very confident that even the standard 6.1 HEMI Challenger would stomp a stock Mustang GT500...
Not that I'm against the idea of a production SuperHEMI, I just dont think we have anything to worry about...

As much as I like Dodge thinking a 4,000+lbs. Challenger with 425hp is going to beat a 3500-3600lbs. Mustang with 500hp (confirned on fords website) is just silly, the Performance wise an SRT-8 6.1L Challenger simply has no hope of keeping up with a GT500, it has both a sizable weight and hp disadvantage, a Challenger would probably need around 530-550hp to keep up with a GT500 or to go on a big time diet and shed a good 600-800lbs.

Actually, the new Shelby GT500s aren't as light as you may all think. Their actual weight is just barely under 4000 lbs. One must account for the much heavier 5.4L DOHC engine as well as the accompanying supercharger hardware and heavier-duty suspension setup to compensate for it's poor weight distribution.
I recently had the pleasure of racing against one of these new Cobras with my SRT-8 Charger along a section of road with a nice mix of straights and twists. Naturally, the GT500 was able to pull away from me somewhat during the straights. However, when we entered into the turns, my Charger would outhandle his Mustang by a fair margin and I could pull out in front of him. The Charger's fully independent suspension and wider front and rear track shone through as I watched the Shelby pull through the turn with horrid body roll. It is beyond me why Ford couldn't do away with the live axle rear suspension setup in these cars. Aside from this shortcoming, the GT500s have earned respect in my eyes. (With a few Mopar upgrades though, I'm sure the 6.1L Hemi would have more than enough umph to pull past these pumped-up ponies. :P )
