I know it is "sketchy" but some dealers are taking "lists" of potential buyers for the Challenger as potential buyers ask. Where do you fall?

The whole "list" thing that dealers try to sell is nothing but a bunch of bologna. These cars will be sold just as the SRT-8s were- on allocation basis. Putting yourself on a list and dropping a big downpayment isn't likely going to do anyone any good. Basically, if you have the money to put down on it and are in the right spot at the right time, you get one. If you're slow to the draw, you have to wait.

When I purchased my Charger SRT-8, I got luck in the way that one of the salesmen was buddy-buddy with one of the owners of a high profile delearship in Ottawa and managed to secure one for me. It's going to be just as cut-throat (probably worse) for people to get their hands on the Challenger when it comes out.

Lists mean nothing. If you offer more money than someone on a list, guess who's going to get the car???

I know, I'm not debating the "value" of the lists, just thought members might be curious to see what others are doing and what dealers are doing or not doing.

Plus, DCX no doubt is keeping tabs on the enthusiasm one way or another...

No Lists? Are you joking? Maybe the List will be sold to a higher bidder, sure. Dealers are in Business to make money after-all... But the 'List' will ensure you don't pay that ridiculous Dealer Mark-Up on the Stickers for the Cars in the Showroom. Got my 05' Magnum RT in November '04 with a $500 down refundable check... Every other Dealer wanted a Minimum of $5000 to $15000 Mark-Up for the Magnums at the time, because you didn't see any on the road yet. Same thing will happen for the Challenger, even more-so. The Dealer Lists are created for On-Line Sales Only. I knew which car was mine weeks before the Dealer took inventory of it... It was still in production when I got delivery info on it... Another 3 weeks and it was there. Instaed of the Dealer listed as the delivery destination, it said this car was made especially for (my name here)... And be sure to tell the Dealer when you order it not to put a Front License Plate Bracket on it! I told my Dealer I had a 'Special One', hence no holes in my front bumper...

So, as far as the 'List' goes... I am willing to wait and have my car made for me!

having worked in the business dept of a dealership, i see how these "lists" work...basically it says that you will pay whatever they want for the car that you are getting..the place where i worked had people putting 5 grand down on the first chargers with the 5.7, and they agreed to pay a markup...if you got a dealership to let you reserve one and avoided their markup, that is remarkable...

i think that the "i gotta have the first one" people are crazy...the first buyers ARE going to pay a markup, just like the first 05 mustang owners and first GT500 owners...they can have the bugs...

i want a price first....these "lists" that dont require a down payment are just another way for the dealers to feel out how well the car will sell...its a marketing tool. i have a related dealership connection, so this weekend we are going to check into the validity of these lists...but as has been said..if youre on a "list", and you put nothing down..if someone walks in with 40 grand for a 30,000 dollar car...that person is on the top of the list.

I'm with BadStratRt. No way would I fall into the game of paying "more" then a cars worth and thats exactly what those that beat the crowd will do. I like the look of the challenger and have thoughts about buying one but I'm not going to play the :highest bidder' game. If I find one that I like and the price is inline with the value then we'll see. I haven't seen many cars increase in value once they are driven off the showroom floor. These cars will be no different.
