I know it brings air into the engine compartment, but does it actually take it to the engine? Is there a mod to allow that?

Nope, it takes it over the headers. There isn't anyone that I know of that has made an intake for it, you have to go third party. Even at that these Hemi's don't utilize mass air flow like other engines do.
