Default Hood "Lifter" vs Prop Rod

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the great advice and Info .....

I'm hoping there is someone out there whe can help me regarding upgrading the hood hinge mechanism. The SRT's use the "shock" looking holder the top of the fenderto thehinge mechanism in lieu of the prop rod. Have any of you upgraded your hood in htis area? I see the hinges for the hood already has the ball for the shock and the fender has a hole in the right location. When I asked my dealer about this the service manger of all people told me I couldn't modify the hood, they were the same. It wasn't until I showed him on the cars, the difference he gave me a quote. The quote was only labor and I think he's to high on it since I had to call him back for the quote.Do any of you have the part numbers of what I would need to do this? Doesthe fender hole have to get tapped? I don't trust the labor estitmate. I kind of feel like he doesn't want to do it.

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

I put mine on. Took about 10 minutes. You'll need a tap to tap the holes that are already there. Other than that its a piece of cake.

Here's where i got mine http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214295

No I don't, I just held the mount next to the tap to get the size.

Thank you both for the information. I'm ordering the parts this week and I'll look into installing them myself, it shouldn't be that difficult. I'm disapointedwith the lack of knowledge my dealer's Service Manger has[sm=headbang.gif] .
Good thing you guys are here[sm=happy046.gif] Thanks again.....

I had them put on my car by the one of the service intake guys and he didn't use a tap, the screws tapped in well as he tightened them down.. but to be safe you may want to tap the holes although we didn't... I love them. Have them installed on my fiberglass hood, one of the shocks wouldn't collapse so with a little elbow grease it finally collapsed and then I put it on... love em..

Happy Fourth Everyone,

I just wanted to give an update to my question . I took rucci1's experience and tried it without a tap. The stud threaded in fine no problem. The rest was simple the rods just snap in. In fact the ONLY tool I used was an open end wrech. This was the easiest mod I've done and what a difference. Also I have to thank MangoInTx for the part numbers. I can't beleive my dealer quoted me 1.5 hrs labor to put these on. I'm glad I asked. THANKS AGAIN for all the great advise, it truely does help a lot. [&:]
