A couple of thoughts.
Matching the existing paint will probably be the biggest issue.
Spraying is preferred over brushing because it will lay down the paint evenly. If you have to use a brush thinning the paint and multiple coats would yield the best results.
Mask off the area with tape and sand the area smooth. Depending on the depth and scaring of the area, start with 100 or 130 grit and work you way down to 2000 or so grit.
Put on a couple coats and let it dry then sand with 2000 grit and apply paint again. Finish up with a clear coat.
I wouldn't attempt this myself but that is my personal thing.

I ran my own shop for 10 years before joing the AF. And what Mango said is right. But if your wanting to get by matching the paint and just touching up what you can do is go to a local paint shop. (ex: Finishmasters-or Carquest) My prefrence is someone that mixes Dupont. (imo-Dupont matches the best) They can mix up as little as 12 oz. and still match very well. They will put it in a cup w/lid. Then take a book of matches and tear off one and take the end that tore off and dip it in and then use it to touch up the spot.
