Man 500, thats rape!

Here aredirections for programming a new key. This is supposed to work on domestic (US) vehicles, non domestics have to have the dealer program new keys.

1. Insert one of two programmed keys and turn ignition switch to on.

2. After ignition has been set to "on" for over 3 seconds but not more than 15 seconds turn the ignition back to "off".

3. With in 15 seconds insert the second key and turn the ignition switch to "on".

4. About 10 seconds later the security indicator in the instrument cluster will start flashing.

5. With in 60 seconds replace the second key in the ignition with the new key. Turn the ignition switch to "on" using the new key.

6. After about 10 seconds the security indicator will stay on for about 3 seconds and then turn off to indicate that the key was successfully programmed. Turn the ignition to "off" and you can now use the new key with the vehicle.

Remember - you need TWO currently functional keys in order to program the new ones once they are cut.

If you have only one, you'll have to visit the dealer and have the service department program one of the new ones.

Believe it or not some have programed a key with only one original key. It may beone of them freak things but it may work.

In step 3 they used the same key as step 1.

Personally I haven't experience programming a key. It's probably a good idea to get one from e-bay and program it whiletwo good keys are available and stash the extra for the day one may be lost.

I would think this thread should be enough to make one ask for a second and work a third into the mix if the cost is right.

I will rephrase my question...as part of the purchase....should the dealer have provided me with two keys? Or am I old school in thinking that a new car should come with two keys?
