POLICE EXHAUST MODS COMPLETE
Thanks for having me on the forum. Been along time since my last post. I try and read Forum daily as time allows. Fially got enough nerve to have the suitcase chopped and 2 polished stainless Magnaflows instaled and delete the muflers at the rear. Man were the rear mufflers huge and heavy. I have a question for anyone in the know, S/C programs for 91 octane. Will the use of 93 have any negitive effects or doesmy police package program run on the higher octane from the factory. The car came with low miles (under 10K) and have K&N and above listed mods. just unsure if S/C is even worth the $$$$ on the POL. PKG. Thanks for all of the inspriation and it is still hard to get a race, on the track of course.
Sirhemi,
You bought an old squad car?
Generally, using a higher octane fuel does nothing to improve anything except waste money. My Daytona with the 5.7 engine, the same engine the pursuit squads have, requires a minimum of 89 according to the factory. Putting 91 into a stock Hemi 5.7 is money thrown away. However, I have a SC programmer, and it is tuned to 91, so I run 91. However, putting 87 into the Hemi is not advised, although, I have heard of people doing it.

MN is right you'r not going to do anything but throw money out the windows with the extra octane.
Having a Charger Police Model you'ra minority . Do you have the push bumper installed?
I saw a stone white unmarked Charger on the highway the other day. I knew it was different as soon as I saw the wheels then the spotlight and a push bumper, it looked nice.

Mango, Stone white it is. No push bumpers though. I had the chance to install but wanted to blend in with you guys as much as possible. It has the dual spots and steeles with small dog dish caps, consolefor 2-way and XM radios with laptop and digital USB video system(super thin). The only give away I want is the 160 MPH speedo and out of place shifter. I should have been more specific in my O/P. I can only find 87,89 and 93 octane in or around my normal routes. Fron what I hear S/C can be set to 91 octane at its highest. Will 93 confuse the program or will I be good. Also torque mgt. option might not be needed being I can stuff HAL in the trunk at any time. I am still "on the fence" with S/C and$400 would be alot to change my limiters where the police has the SRT trans. program managing to give me all the torque i need while HAL is handcuffed. Good to be amongst fellow Charger enthusists and will post pictures of my baby as soon as the forum keeper allows, I think it is 3 posts. Thanks Mango and sorry for being long winded, Charge On Brothers.
Long winded
the more information the better.
You have some nice options with that package; the HAL stuffer and more agressive PCM/TCM tunes.
At times I also have to fill up 93 depending on where I stop, it's only an issue to the pocket book and at that isn't isn't high dollars so no big deal.
Looking forward to those pics!

SirHemi,
I can see you using 89 for now. That old squad must be quite a beast -- I LOVE old (and new LOL) squads. They usually have been well maintained, driven to death, but repairedby state and county agencies. Some of the local agencies don't have a program officer or maintainence supervisior like bigger depts have. Of course, back here in the rural areas, the squads are taken home by the county and state officers (they are assigned to each officer) and very well maintained.
If you buy a Superchips, the 91 tune is the highest (for now) but 93 wouldn't bother it -- I understand you skip from 89 to 93 -- quite a jump. I would also look at a K&N 63 series (or a good brand named) ram air for your car to help it breathe. Also, I'd have the exhaust looked at since the CATs usually are starting to plug with that many hard miles. Suspension parts, rear ends, brakes, U-joints and transmissions are heavily used and should also be gone through or inspected. You always roll the dice with a used squad, but I've bought several years back andonce I wentthrough themthey'll be as reliable as any other car -- just with heavy duty parts. Remember, you'll pay MORE for some parts since it is a high performanceversion of the standard car. I sense you are a good car guy since you are asking questions and not just driving the hell out the remaining miles of the car. I spent a lot of money on my old squads at the time, repairing and getting it back to specs -- but the return was a twice what the standard car was...
Like Mango said, you're asking long winded questions or concerns is fine with us -- we'll do the same

Thanks for all of your responses, I will get this project up to speed soon. I got the carwithDHSprocurment dept. being the other owner with 8200 miles on the clock (had to be a supervisor). Full armrest and switchconsole with inverter andlaptop mountall like new, still had tags on seats and clear plastic on the floor.New car smell anyone? I changed all fluids to Royal Purple from day one just to be on the safe side, relined the brakesand keep an eye on the hour meter(all chargers shouldget them in the EVIC).Well, the Magnaflow seems to rub off on me as time passes, drone is really only heard under load between 1700 and 2100 RPM and is not that bad, my wife actuially said it sounded tough. one day I would like to put it in a charger event, not that it could hang with Mangosride or some of theother bad *** modded chargers but just to be different. Our local S.O. has aproached the car for a look several times and all were extreamly jealous.

There are two cruisers on ebay motors. Search "charger police". Mine has the same equipment as the red W/O hockey puck on the back deck. The blue one has over 30K on the clock and bad interior and no price listed. Also all my body panels are the same color, after looking at hisfor a while it looks kind of cool like that (rockers). Just thought some of you guys might want to take a look.
SirHemi,
Wow. Sounds like you've done your homework. The car sounds awesome. I can understand why the area law enforcement are jealous...
