Default RE: Theft Prevention

I am new to posting on this forum, however I have been lurking for a while.

Just a few answers about Ravelco, as I have it on my truck. It does not interfere with other systems. There are no electronic components to fail, it is a mechanical system. It was explained to me that it is like taking a piece of the engine with you. I looked into Lojack, but you can't get it tracked if you don't know its gone. Plus its not a high priority for Police if it is even available in your area. Thieves can bust the transmitter or drive it to a garage to interfere with the signal. Also, I would rather keep my truck from being stolen than get it back after the thief is done with it. Ravelco is the way to go.

I agree that an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure, but if someone wants your ride bad enough . . . That is where Lojack fits into your security strategy. If your first line of defense fails, it's a next level.

I have "tested" my Lojack on several occasions by going for parts or whatever and leaving the fobs at home. My cell phone gotvoice and textmessages, I had a message on my answering machine when I got home and I get email. Youdefinitely know when your car is moved if you set it up correctly. The installed electronics are installed in places that are not easily accessible and are out of sight. If the thieves don't know it's there, they can't disable them

Back in the day we used to pull the rotor out of the distributor and take it with us. It didn't prevent someone from towing away your car but the opportunists (i.e. joyriders) were foiled. Since distributors have gone the way of the dodo bird, that doesn't work any more.[:@]

The Ravelco system looks to bearelatively simple foolproof solution. Like the rotor trick. it won't prevent someone from towing your car away.

The best solution would be a combination of these products to cover as many bases as possible.

every time you get out or leave it overnight somewhere just pop the trunk and disconnect the wire that goes to the coil and no matter what they do it will only crank but not start and they will not bother going into the engine

My wife's 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T was stolen this past July. It was parked in front of our house with the factory alarm enabled. The car disappeared with no trace, no broken glass.....just gone!! My 2007 Charger R/T was safe in the driveway blocked by my 1991 Dakota full of recycling to be hauled the next day (yes I am a redneck). The Magnum is gone we havn't heard anyting from the police and it has been over a month since the car was stolen. It's gone. I am now looking into security options for the Charger. How much does LoJack and Ravelco cost? Are they worth it?

Ravelco is about $400 installed and they have mobile service and a lifetime warranty. Lojack is $600 and up plus a monthly service fee. Check to make sure your area has Lojack service and remember it can't be tracked until you know its gone.

Hope that helps. Sorry about the Magnum.
