Default Theft Prevention

Hey fellow chargers. So just having picked up my new ride last thursday (07 charger sxt) i thought what do you all use for theft prevention? Yes it has an alarm and sentry key immobolizer but i also use a club but one with four arms instead of just the 2. I was going to purchase disklok but holy crap they are expensive, for me to get one shipped here to Canada it's like almost $200. Then i got to thinking well it has a power seat on the driver's side so now what i do is put my club but then i front up and tilt the seat so it's as close to the wheel as possible. Yeah it's a longer process when you go get in but hey anything to prevent jeaslous punks from trying to steal your car and no need for disklok then.

edit: ok so i thought the power seat would not work unless you have the key in the ignition and just tried it but it will move. Well i never really had power seats and such, but at least it may stear thieves away to maybe try an easier to steal car.

I use the club to go with the security alarm. It ads a visual indicator the this car won't be the easiest to steal. I've also been looking into adding lo-jack but it's pricey at $600 and no installers in my immediate area. I have to talk with my insurance agent though because I think they give a discount if I put the lo-jack in. -Rob

Yeah lo-jack is real good from what i heard. I am still debating getting disklok or not. It would be better then my club. i don't know so far my club plus the alarm is doing fine, oh and the charger does have an immobilizer.

I'm not certain if the lo-jack is a deterrant but it definitely helps in recovering a stolen vehicle. I have the early warning system on my wife's car and my charger and am having it installed on my new truck when it gets here.

Keep the fobs on a different keyring from the car keys or it won't work. I have a separate ring for my house and misc keys that I always carry so the fobs are on that. They are on a quick disconnect so I can take them off and leave them in the car when it is in for service.

Don't disable the option to flash lights and beep the horn when you arm the alarm. This let's would be thieves know that the car has a security system and they will probably move on to easier pickings. It also helps to find the car in a crowded parking lot when those silver moments happen

Enjoy your new ride

Im looking into having this installed in my wifes R/T. Over on Diesel truck resource I have read a couple of threads where this device saved the vehicle from being stolen.

Yeah i actually do keep my house and other keys on one ring and my car key on it's own. I also have been fronting up my seat at night so it's almost against the stearing wheel. Well anything to slow them down if they were to try. Oh and thanks i am very much enjoying the ride.

73dart: Interesting device. Just wander if it would affect sentry key in any way.

On the websight they say it is compatible with all the factory installed theft deterent systems. Now that my wife finally has the car of her dreams I am really leaning toward this device.

It is an independent system.

They install a transmitter in a hidden location and if the vehicle is moved without the fob being in the car you will get notified by up to 5 ways (phone, text message, e-mail) that you set up. You can move the car a short distance (like to move it out of the garage to wash it) without activating the transmitter. Once activated, the transmitter sends out a beacon that the the police can track to recover the car.

The installer took less than an hour to do each of mine. The sensor has it's ownpower source,so disconnecting the car battery doesn't disable it. Every couple of years you have to have it serviced which includes a new battery and functionality test. That costs $80 for one but there are discounts for multiple units. I'll find out how much shortly as mine are due. The only other maintenance is to replace the batteries in the fobs twice a year but they are standard lithium batteries that I can pick up anywhere for $3 a pair. Pretty cheap insurance.

Not all insurances give a rate discount (I have Allstate and it doesn't) but it don't hurt to ask.
