Sat in Charger today
Just for grins, I spun past the local Dodge dealer at lunch today.
They had 2 in stock, both R/T's and both totally optioned out.
The silver one had a sticker price of $40K and then $42K after dealer add-ons(Rear VES "Video Entertainment System").
The red one was just under $40K.
They are alot different from the Magnum. It sits much higher and very comfortable getting in/out.
The fit and finish both inside and out was nice, but better inside and outside. It just seemed that the panel joints had larger than normal gaps.
I was disappointed with the truck space, much smaller than I anticipated. I am not sure I can get my golf clubs in w/o putting down a seat. It just didn't seem very wide, or not as wide as I expected.
I think I am leaning towards a Magnum now, at least until the base price versions arrive at the dealers...

Wow, I am really surprised to hear that regarding the trunk. All this time I did not think it was a problem to even consider. I strayed from the GTO mainly because of the trunk size & the hard to use back seat. But heck, even the GTO should have been able to get 2 sets of normal golf clubs in there.

The 2004+ Pontiac GTO's problem w/ trunk space is, the car is built in Elizabeth Austraila as of course the Holden Monaro and the Pontiac GTO... in order to see the car here in the states, they had to move the fuel cell in front on the rear axle, which cut down over half of the truck space on the GTO! In Austraila they run a fuel cell behind the rear axle, but because of vehicles like Ford's Pinto, that is the reason.

Truthfully, trunk space or lack of, should not be a reason to buy a Charger....
It's different when you are talking about a 4-door Charger....
I wish they would have given the car a different name...
I don't know how the capacity stacks up with it's competitors, maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Maybe I just expected more from a large car.

Interesting article about the charger when someone actually gets to "sit in it" or for this guy, take it on the track. As far as the four door controversy, he makes some good points about being open to it even though being a classic charger fan...good short read:

"To say this reborn muscle car is controversial would be a major understatement. A sizable majority of the correspondence has been intensely negative, the universal bone of contention being Chrysler's decision to switch from the classic coupe to a sedan body style. Raised to admire and fear Woody's '69 Charger 500, I have to admit my own skepticism. But after spending a long day on both the track and highway, most of my concerns have melted away."
