YES! I have felt that way for a while. On my '93 dakota the air inlet into the engine compartment is between the passenger headlight and the radiator. Its practically ram air induction!

I dont buy into the CAI myself. And certainly not worth 200 bucks! I just get the K&N OEM ari filters.

K&N filter E-1535 for an 84 mustang 5.0 is the correct size for the Mopar hat. 12.50" O.D. and 2.87" high.

E-1530 is a bit shorter at 2.75" with the 12.50" O.D.

I was looking for the spectre one that is about 50% less cash and has a 10 dollar rebate on top of that. Spectre does not make one for the MOPAR hat. I checked.

But thanks for the Part numbers.

I would really like to get a 2 inch tall filter TBPH.

Just throwing my pennies in:

Any high-flow air intake is going to make the air entering the air horn more audible. Take whatever air cleaner you've got completely off and crack the throttle open rapidly (with the engine running, of course) -- that sound is what you're hearing through the high flowing air intake. It might be more audible and subtly different with a CAI because the sound is echoing down the inlet tube, but that's where it's coming from.

FWIW, I like my K&N FIPK and believe it improved my truck's throttle response. The main reason I put it on there was to replace the stock air box that was broken when I bought the truck. The original owner stuck duct tape over the hole and there was just no way I was going to leave that be. Even while test driving I could see that damned tape fluttering under the closed hood just looking for a way into the intake manifold. Yeah, I'm paranoid, but that doesn't mean they're not out to get me!

RM Indy was correct in everything he posted.
My Mopar air hat does not whistle at all, nor does it make any sort of sucking sounds. It's either the TB gasket, or the TB not aligned with the intake bore.

Line it up, and it'll go away. You may have to cut the gasket bigger with an exacto knife.

There was a thread here that had flow rates based on the K&N flow numbers per square inch of their filter media. The Mopar hat with the 1535 filter outflows the stock air box. The stock air box also does not flow as much as the stock TB can flow at WOT, if
that's worth anything to anybody.

SInce they are so cheap now 9with the rebate) I think i will just try out a 14x3 cloth filter.

thanks for the tip RM.

P.S. I still think that fabbing a ram air intake will be better. If I can get close to 1LB of boost at highway speeds that should be good for towing and help out with negotiating long steep hills on the hwy.
No need to fab a ramairbox, buy one from www.ramairbox.com or from you fav Spectre
5.9, if sealed correctly & ducted from the foglights should see .5-.75lbs of boost.
5.2 may actually see 1lb.

Hey Indy,

I noticed on your site that you switched from the Rubber radiator shrouds to the fog light holes. Were the shroud tubes not collecting as much air?

I've often wondered if there were 2 large rectangular snorkels where the rad shrouds are it might collect and ram more air down the intake. You thoughts?

That would give it a lot more air for sure.
Biggest advantage of beside the rad is the airflow is much straighter going into the box.
The more you bend the air, the slower the velocity will be.
If you have to have bends, best to make them as gentle & as large a radius as you can.

I moved to the foglight openings cause I noticed they had 4" dia holes & the area around the openings would funnel even more air into the ducts(gives about 5.5-6" dia opening).
I was going to get some of the big rectangle snorkel end pieces ramairbox sells so I could use the spot between the foglights but never got to it cause I got hooked on getting the Procharger.

Sorry to the OP for going sort of OT
Did you find the cause of your whistle yet?
