Hood Scoops?
I wanna put hood scoops on my 1973 dodge charger. Do i need a new hood with cut outs of the shape of the good scoops or do I just cut out the shape my self? I wanna put this one on http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HRD-1107/
But it says its not functional? Does that me its just for show? It doesnt take in any fresh air?
Where can I find ones that look like that one that actually take in fresh air?

If you are handy, you can make your current hood and the scoop that you want to buy functional.
I am not a body person but I know the basics, so I will give you the run down on what will need to be done.
Once you have the scoop in hand, you will have to measure out the "cut" line on your hood using the new scoop. Proceed to cut out, very carefully, the piece to be removed. Once cut and cleaned you can mount the scoop to the hood. There are a couple different routes to go here. You can go cheap and just rivot the thing to the hood or you can do it clean with body bondo and sand it out real nice with paint afterward. This will take care of the scoop part.
Now the reason that the description states that it is nonfunctional is because that most people will buy these things and just glue them to their vehicle for the look, not caring about the function. By doing the process above, you have now made it a semi functional hood. You still have to worry about getting the air to the proper place (intake). This is where it gets tricky and I really can't help you much. You will beed to fabricate an air channel from the scoop to your intake and depending on the style of intake you have, this can be rather easy or extremely hard. Once you have the air routed to the intake, NOW you will have a full functional cowl hood.
The last thing you will need to do is screen up the front of the scoop. You don't need the debris heading straight to your intake.
Do a search for functional hood and just look at underside of them and you will see what make a hood functional. Basically it is to pieces. The top shell which is what everyone sees, then the bottom that is the air channel to the intake area.
Semi functional won't have the air channel. These are used mostly in off road use just to keep the entire engine area cooler compared to feeding the intake. Works more like a chimney letting the hot air out.
Now what you will have to look for is the proper way to cut your hood and what tools to use to cut and adhere it to your car.
Good luck
BTW, this is for the newer Chargers. I was able to answer this mostly for you but there is a section a little further down in the forum for the classics. They will be able to help you with your more technical issues.
