Cruise Control Calibration or Speed Trap
I'm not sure what forum this should go in so I thought I'd try here.
I have an '07 Charger. I was recently ticket for going 83 in a 75 mph zone in Louisiana. My cruise control was definitely set below 80, I'd say at 76-77. The officer would not show me the reading on the radar gun. I plan to fight the ticket as either the cop was not on the up & up or my cruise control is not functioning properly. Is there a way to test & document cruise control accuracy? My local dealer did not know of one. Thanks, tglamparter@yoahoo.com

Welcome aboard tglamparter! Stay tuned - a Technician (or member) will jump in shortly to provide a possible solution. In the meantime, don't forget to browse Sub-Forums: Charger for stuff related to your ride.
Ok, first depending on the state you are not obligated to see the RADAR/LIDAR unit. Second you can ask to see documentation on the unit in question, and the officers training on the equipment. If those are in the green you are SOL. Did you change out your tires or wheels at all, those will impact your speedometer. PM if you have any further questions.
Question, do you have aftermarket rims/tires on your car? If you do and they are of different diameter than the stock, your speedo can be off. If you have the stock tires on then chances are your speedo is ok.
Yes there are garages out there that cal check speedo's. If you plan on fighting it, I would definately have it checked, get the certification, and take that to court with you.
How I check my speedo every once in awhile is checking it against my GPS (aftermarket, not the dodge stock one) as it shows my speed when traveling. This will not hold up in court however it will give you an idea if your speedo needs checked.
You'll have to Google for a garage that calibrates speedos in your area. You would probably be better off hiring one of those ticket lawyers though. Most charge about $85 plus court fees. If the ticket gets thrown out then there are no court fees. I've been lucky, every speeding ticket I have received has been thrown out so no additional costs. Others, I have seen have to pay an extra $110 or so. Good news is that there are no points, no school and no increases of anything across the board. Again, you will have to Google for a traffic lawyer though. This might be cheaper too.
Good luck on your endeavor....
