Can't get lug nuts off 2008 Charger
I have a retired 2008 Dodge Charger police car. I was going to rotate the tires. I got 3 lug nuts off, but 2 just keep spinning and spinning. They wont come off. Has anyone else had this issue. I hope the bolts don't have to be cut off and require a new hub. The lug nuts are 7/8. It looks to me like the nut and hex are like crimped together. So the actual nut is secure, but the hex is turning.
I do not know if you have taken care of this problem or not, but the factory lugs are a steel inner lug with like a tin outer lug. if the outer lug spins or is slightly rounded you have to either force a smaller socket onto the lug, or chisel off the outer casing. I would recommend replacing the factory lugs with aftermarket full steel ones from the parts store.
Yeah they are like caps over the lug nuts. I actually got them removed so problem solved. It is a temp fix cause I needed to rotate my tires. I like to do alot myself to save money. So soon the lugs will be replaced. In the long run I'm glad I removed the caps. Cause I found several not really tight.
I understand, I was in the middle of trying to put new brakes on the wife's charger about a year and a half ago when I had the same problem. I used to have a 2000 Lincoln LS that had the same problem. I work for a Discount Tire in Georgia, and its not surprising the number of times we have to use our lug removal kit on these chargers after "Billy Bob's Tire Shop" has done stuff to the tires and damaged the lugs by either using a impact wrench that is to strong, or over torqueing the lugs.
