Default EGR Cylinder Head Port

Just bought a 2006 Charger w/ 5.7. a couple weeks ago. The egr fault (p0404) sets even after two replaced valves. No other codes set. Cleaned the the intake tube and all. Went to clean out the port on the cylinder head, but it doesn't go anywhere. It's drilled maybe 1/2" into the head, but that's it. After inspection with a mirror and light, there seems to be no passages anywhere from there. There's no carbon build up or any indication of exhaust gas flow in the port or the new egr valves. Looks like the port never had any exhaust gas flow.

So my question is, could this be a head from a truck? Any ideas for a work-a-around the fault code? It's also possible I'm just missing something.

How long have you owned it? Do you know if the motor was swapped, or had any major work done on it in the past?

I've owned it three weeks now and have no idea if it's had any major work done in the past. But the more I look in to it, I'm starting to suspect something major was replaced at some point. The heads look cleaner than the intake and valve covers. That's why I was wondering if maybe the heads could be from a truck. There aren't any MDS related codes set, so I'm fairly sure the block is original or at least from another car.

Might be interesting to pull a valve cover, I *think* the part numbers are cast into the heads under there. Look it up, and see where it came from.

Ok, after some further research, seems the head(s), at least, were replaced with a head(s) from probably 2004 or maybe heads from a truck that didn't have EGR. So I guess I'm stuck with the EGR fault till I replace the heads (not likely) or do the EGR delete with a PCM tuning (more likely). I guess the dealer was clearing the faults when no one was looking.

Trucks had EGR from 04 to 08 with the exception of the 2500/3500's and LX's had it from 05 to 08. You either got 2003 truck heads or later HD truck heads. I find it funny that someone did that, seems like it was a hurry up "fix-n-flip". That's if these are actual 1st gen 5.7 heads. Though not likely, someone may have pulled a fast one and snuck 6.1 or eagle 5.7 heads on there (neither use EGR).

Exhaust side of the cylinder head above the ports
