Default DTC’s P1128, P1129

Hey guys. I’ve been stumped about this codes for months now and no one has made a forum about it that has my issues. Thought I would be the first.

I have a 2008 Dodge Charger SE V6 2.7 L engine. Approximately 124,000 miles. I have been getting the above check engine light codes for the past 3-4 months. It was all subsequently after receiving a PCM flash update from the dealership. Attempted to bring it back to the dealer after doing some research and found that one of the possible causes was a faulty PCM. However, I was instructed not to unless the codes and light were active and CEL was illuminated. Conveniently for them, the light would come on Saturday evening, they’re closed Sunday, and by Monday it would almost always turn off. Dealer told me, without even looking at it, it may be O2 sensors. Took it to a different shop locally, let them run they’re tests and they said the same thing. Okay fine.

$800 later after replacing all 4 sensors the CEL came back on like a bad dream. (Mopar parts and everything). Finally able to get it to the dealer after kindly asking the other auto shop for a refund for a miss diagnosis. Dealer says everything looks good we’re not sure, you have a “Ghost Code” nothing is causing it. But they said we’ll slap in a new MAP sensor and that should fix it all, short of buying a new PCM that’s on back order and not even in stock.

Monitored it, and after about 20 miles the dreadful CEL returned. Before even calling the dealer I ordered a remanufactured PCM from eBay just to see what might happen. Provided them with my ViN and essentially was able to plug and play. Started right up, no issues with it, except for the fact that CEL came back again! I feel like at this point if I call the dealer, they will just say I needed a brand new computer, but how am I getting the exact same code with a different computer? Tell me there’s something they are missing? I don’t want to go back there, and mechanically there is nothing wrong with the car. It’s running great. The only reason I’m trying to get to the bottom is at some point it will need to be smogged and I know I won’t pass with any check engine lights.

When I got the codes read originally before I read them myself, autozone said it was a bad CMP sensor and CKP sensor, dealer didn’t say anything like that. Could that be related? I also read that sometimes certain fuel makes a difference. I originally was going to chevron for gas (89), I started going to shell because it’s closer to home. Could that be related?

If anyone can offer any time of advice for this I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Ok, both codes relate to engine not going into closed loop. PCM wants a few things before it will do closed loop. Engine temp above threshold, O2 sensor reporting 'ready', and probably a couple other things as well. Think I would check coolant level, and make sure the thermostat is working properly.

It would be really nice if the PCM would tell you WHY it wasn't going into closed loop..... but, apparently, that is too much to ask.
