MDS has absolutely nothing to do with the lifter failures that have been experienced over the years. Everyone thinks it's so widespread because only problems get heard about. No one ever hears about the 1000's of engines that just do their thing like they're supposed to. To whit:
1. If MDS was the actual problem, every 05-08 5.7 equipped with it would have grenaded by now (news flash, they didn't).
2. If MDS was the actual problem, none of the stick shift 5.7's & 6.4's or 2500/3500 5.7's after 2009 would have grenaded (news flash, they suffered from it too).
3. If MDS was the actual problem, it would only ever be cylinder numbers 1, 4, 6 & 7 (news flash, the other cylinders were affected too).
It was a run of bad cam cores in some cases and a crappy run of lifters trying to save a buck (in some cases both).
