Dave it allows it to run a bit cooler so therefore it will perform.Girl lay under your car and look at the motor you cant see it there is a cover on the under side.My guess is to block debris and stufff.

How did I get involved in this?? But I'll weight in -- removing the engine cover keeps it cooler? Hmmm. I'm with Dave, some older cars would run faster, some slower with the AIR CLEANER off, usually had to do with jetting, but taking off a plastic cover doesn't makes much sense. Taking off the lower plastic cover doesn't help either since the cover keeps air from flowing up and around the front suspension and slowing the car -- ground effects are the key here.

Get AMBIENT TEMP air into the air intake like my modification I posted under https://dodgeforum.com/m_455676/tm.htm and get cooler air to the AIR INTAKE.

so you are telling me that lowering the engine temp isnt gonna do anything? So tell me why there is water wetter? its an add.that drag racers use to drop the engine temp. so the car will run faster, and I am pretty sure they dont add a bottom engine cover for dynamics on there drg cars.Any way since you have tried it and it doesnt work I know a guy that did it and ran a 13.31 with his charger.

What we are saying, is that does taking off a plastic cover really lower engine temp? It sounds odd. Sure cooler engines run faster than hot ones, but there is a fine line. Your right, I haven't tried taking off my plastic engine cover to run at a drag strip... if that was the ONLY trick and it's worth 3/4 of a second, you might have found the best kept secret in the world...

Elevation, humidity and air pressure not to mention air temperature all affect your quarter mile times.

Little by little... I am just reporting in. I have a 2006 Daytona model with a Jet 2 chip, K&N cold air induction with fresh air from the grill, and run three resonators (the stock Daytona resonator and the two rear from Magnaflow) with the plastic engine cover ON (sorry, just a joke), and get 28 MPG at 60, and ran a 14.07 at 105.8 in "D" from with all else stock, using a G-Tech Pro accelerometer and the best of three runs. This on a 75 degree sunny day in light wind.

1st and 2nd gears pull "hard", but I noticed it flatten out a bit in on the high end in 3rd gear at WOT-- ?? No engine codes thrown.

My future plans are to investigate the 6.1 heads on the 5.7 motor, then use headers from Dynatech for the 6.1 motor, then look at the use of the intake and fuel rails from the 6.1 also... anyone try 6.1 heads yet??

So I went to the strip at the speedway last night to have a little fun with the wifes car ( stock TB daytona). To give you an idea of what heat does, I got to the track and the temp was at 105 degrees. This was at 8:30pm. My first run was a 15.42 @ 92.06mph. My last run which was my 19th run of the night at 11:13pm, I ran a 14.98 @ 94.41 mph. By this time the temp dropped to 95 degrees. The heat just kills these cars. I hope when winter comes around and the temps are around 60-70 degrees, I will get it to the 14.10 that everyone talks about. I can brag about my reaction time... .010 with a full tree, sweet
