disconnected battery
I disconnected the battery to make some upgrades....sound/stage chip. My question is do I have to tell the dealership so they can reprogram the MDS (I believe thats what its called) that makes it go from 8 to 4 cylinder or does the chip do it? If I do have to the dealership are they going to bitch or give me a hassle because of the chip?
if any one can help would be much appreciated.

Why would disconnecting the battery cause a need to re-program the MDS? That, to me, wouldn't make sense if you had to do a normal battery replacement or other work on the vehicle where it would be necessary to disconnect the battery (such as you had to ) then have to run back to the dealer/service dept for a re-program.
Just curious....

At times I also disconnect the battery for mods. I've never visited the stealership to reprogram due to this.
If you do go into the stealership you'll probably want to pull the chip, just to circumvent any hassel you may receive from them finding it.

No you will also notice that you did not have to reprogram the clock or radio stations. This was a earlier problem that has been changed.

BATTERY RECONNECTION
Note: This reconnection procedure is to be performed anytime the battery has been disconnected.
1. Connect the battery negative cable (2) to the battery
post and tighten the clamp nut.
2. Install the rear compartment floor trim panel.
CAUTION: Once the battery has been connected,
review and perform the following information as
applicable.
AUTO UP FRONT WINDOW
If the vehicle is equipped with the auto-up front window feature, once the battery is reconnected the door module
needs to be calibrated. The door module requires calibration anytime the battery or door module has been disconnected
for any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:
1. Connect the battery cables.
2. Using the window switch, raise the window to the full UP position. Hold the switch in position for 1 second, then
drive the window all the way down to the bottom.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)
If the vehicle is equipped with ESP, once the battery is reconnected, the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) needs to be
calibrated. The SAS requires calibration anytime the battery or an ABS (ESP) component has been disconnected for
any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:
1. Start the engine.
2. Center the steering wheel.
3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left until the internal stop in the steering gear is met, then turn the
wheel all the way to the right until the opposite internal stop in the steering gear is met.
4. Center the steering wheel.
5. Stop the engine.

I posted the same thing on another topic about mileage.
FYI
I was just thumbing threw the manual and came across a note on page 213
Stating that if the vehicle battery is disconnected the MDS system must be reset and to see your authorized dealer for service.
