Thanks for the tip. My "early" Daytona has auto-headlights as well, now that I've pulled the **** and just barely reconnected it. I'm torn between breaking the tab and ordering the new part. Anyone know if you can order a cover plate with the 'A' on it?

 

Might as well remove the 3:00 tab and at least have auto-headlight while you are deciding. When you order the part (listed above in post 1) you replace the entire part in your dash (it is held in by 3 clips) and it does have an "A" that lights up like the rest of the letters on the face plate. I may eventually purchase the part to put on, but for now, I am just enjoying my auto-headlights by turning my existing switch to the "stealth" A location.

BTW - you do not break the tab off the ****, you remove the small tab that sticks out in the 3:00 position on the plate still in your dash. If you already knew this, sorry - if you still don't understand, keep asking questions and I will post pictures.

I installed the new switch assembly in my Charger R/T last night. The operation was as easy as described in the previous posts and now the headlights turn on automatically in the dark. (Aah, the little things in life...)

Now a new question for someone who has Auto Headlights from the factory:

My wife's 2003 Caravan has a setting to turn the headlights on with the wipers. Do the newer 2006 Chargers have an option in the Personal Settings on the EVIC to turn the headlights on with the wipers?

Yes. Just go through the menu and it is one of the choices.

 

Just knocked off the 3:00 tab and I now have auto headlights. I love this car more every day. Had to pry a little on the **** but with a little finesse it came off. I think I will pass on the $30.00 for just the letter A.

 

I looked for this option and could not find it. Do I need to have my dealer do a "firmware" update on my charger to have it appear in the settings?

BTW - what options are before and after it to help me find it in the personal settings.

 

I just checked my firmware version. It is 9/12/05 V4.07 pn 04843155AG.

Go to Personal Settings.
Scroll down one past "Headlamps on with wipers."
Then select "Delay Turning Headlamps off." and set to desired time.
The next menu item is "Turn Headlamps on with Remote Key Unlock."

For those of us with an early production 2006 Charger where Auto Headlights were not an option, it looks like a software update or chip change will be needed to turn headlights on with the wipers.

Another call to the dealer.
