Default Auto-Headlights on the charger.

This was mentioned at the end of another thread and wanted to make sure you all were aware of it.

If you look at your dash between the defroster vents (near the windshield) and see a small plastic bubble sticking up above the level of the dash - you probably have auto-headlights. It was pissing me off that I couldn't figure out how to turn them on so I went searching and found this..... (BTW - I didn't spend the $30, I just did the mod and it worked great.

I found the answer at www.chargerforums.com. Here is a quote from there.
Okay...really easy.

I got the switch for $29.28 from MoparSuperCenter.com.
Came in 3 days.

Part number 4602348 - AD Switch HE 8053059.

This is the whole light assembly. Switch and panel.

Easy step by steps...

1. Take existing **** off.
2. Using 2 flat headed screwdrivers, take 1 into the slot where the **** ran, pressing up into the unit, pry the TOP of the panel away from the dash. (doesn't require much movement).
3. There are two metal tabs on top, press one down, till it releases, then the next.
4. Use a tad bit of force to pull forward, using the bottom, much like a hinge, this will release the 3rd clip on the bottom.
5. Take wire module off
6. Clip wire onto new unit
7. pRess into dash, test, smile, drink a beer

Total install time...including opening box...about 2mins total.

Good luck.

Doug
If you don't care about not having the "A" on the plate (and would like to save $30), you can just:

1) pull off the **** for the headlights

2) on the switch body (part still in the dash) there are two tabs (one at about 2 o'clock, and one at 3 o'clock) - remove the 3 o'clock tab

3) put the **** back on.

4)Turn the **** to the left (of off) and you have auto-headlights.

That plastic bulb on the dash is actually for the dual climate zones if you have them, according to the manual it is an infer red heat sensor.

Both of you are correct. The button is an infared sensor. However if you have the dual climate controls, you also have the capability for auto-headlights. So GMG_1269 is also correct in saying that if you have the bubble/sensor you can do the mod.

Nope. The infrared sensor is located on the front of the dash panel, right above the push button for the rear window defroster. It's approximately the size of a pencil erraser.

Go man great investigating Thanks!!
Here is a simple reversible test to see if you have auto headlights
Pull your **** off (LOL)
Twist the switch stem one click to the left of off
If your headlights come on at night tada you have auto headlight
If not ya don’t. I have a Daytona without the auto headlights so I cannot comment on the other trim levels. I just pulled my **** and twisted my stick to the left I will let you know tonight if I have auto headlights.

Additionally it was my understanding that the bubble sensor on top of the dash was a light sensor the sensor on the front of the dash above the button for the rear window defroster is the infrared temp sensor. The automatic climate control uses both sensors to adjust & maintain cabin climate the bubble sensor to measure sun intensity and the infrared to measure temp.

Thanks again for the tip on the MOD!

I was told by the service guy, and my salesman, that the infrared sensor actually senses the temp of the driver and front passenger. That's what they said.

Hey, does the headlight switch/**** just pull off? I've tried pulling mine off and it is on REALLY good! Didn't see any set screw or anything either.

To get the light **** off I needed to use a thin flat blade screwdriver I did this from the underside just incase I marked the plastic I was able to work the **** off without leaving a mark at all
Just to confirm around dusk I went outside turned the light switch left of off it put my hand over the bubble sensor on the dash and whoo hoo the lights came on. Removed my hand and lights out This mod defiantly works in the morning I am going to try out my cordless dremel (new little toy) and take out the tab I will wait until lunch to grab a beer.

Thanks again for the tip!!

My Daytona already has an 'A' on the light switch for the AUTO headlights. But I could not find anything in the manual about them. Not sure if I like using them or not yet, always feel like I forgot to turn them off.

Welcome MECHINF, tell us a little about your self and your Charger.

In the peronal settings in the display on your dash, you can set how long to keep the lights on (if at all) after you turn the key off.
