Default Standard Maint. Questions.

Ok, I just looked under my charger and noticed that a cover is hanging down (under the engine - hanging down about even with the back of the tires)

I called the dealer and asked WTF. (I have only had the charger for 5 days and they were the last ones with it. (they changed the oil when they got it in and removed the decal for me) They sait it was a cover that goes under the engine to more easily tell what (if anything) was leaking. Since the bolts that hold it up are missing - I can take it off and they will put it back on for me next week.

My question to you all is - do you leave this cover on? If you do, do you just remove it when you do oil changes and such. How do you reach the back bolts to get it off of there?

Second question - how do you get your charger into the air? (no dukes of hazzard answers please) With the chin spoiler, the front is to low for ramps, It may be to low for my floor jack (from the front) What point do you jack it up from and where is the jack located when you do it? (in from front, behind the tire, etc.)

I see the oil drain location - where is the filter located? Does the oil drain straight out or does it hit stuff on the way down and splatter everywhere?

Took it for its first trip on the interstate this morning and averaged 19 mpg at 70mph. Is there a way to tell if the MDS is working or could having that shield hanging down drop my milage that much?

Sorry for all the questions, but thought it was a good time to ask. (Before I really HAD to have the answers....)

Thanks,

Michael

GoManGo_1269: I'll try and answer your questions for you.

1. I leave that lower cover on. There are only 3 (IIRC) that hold it on.

2. Location of Jack - check your owner's manual. Same for jacking locations.

3. Filter is easily located and changed. IIRC, it comes straight off; very easy to get to. It will splatter some, though. Just be careful (I wasn't ).

A lot of these questions are answered in your owner's manual. Don't know about the change in mpg with the cover off - I put mine back on. Not a big deal to remove or put back.

Actually, I think it is two bolts front and two bolts back for that cover. The hole in the bottom won't help you drain the oil. The Hemi has a very nice aluminum oil pan but has a side mounted drain plug. You couldn't reach it through that hole if you tried. Once you remove the cover the oil filter and the drain plug are extremely easy and obvious. These cars are a dream to service compared to some of my past experiences... Other then having to take off the cover first..

Hmmm. Maybe some screws are missing from mine. I know I only had 3 to remove the bottom cover. But you are right. After removing the cover, they are a dream to service. I have to go through all kinds of contorsions just to get to the oil filter on my daily driver Saturn.

I'm planning on changing my oil tomorrow so I will know for sure then. The only time I personally had it off before was when I installed my CAI and it was up on a rack. I just wish my muffler shop where I have free use of the rack had oil disposal.. [8D]

Mine goes up on to my ramps, I have those black plastic ones, just be careful they like to slide, four bolts hold the cover 10 mm if memory serves me, then everything is in the open and easy.
