Default "Used 06 Charger"

I stopped by my local dealership just to walk the lot today. You all know how that goes.

Anyway, they had an 06 charger on the lot, gray in color.

It was an SXT 3.5L HO V6.

I had the chance to test drive it, and it drove like a champ. It was love.

The car apparently was a rental, and now they're looking to get rid of it. They wanted 20,971 for it. This price seems reasonable for a charger under these circumstances, however, there are some NOTICEABLE paint dings, a body scratch on the rear left side of the bumper, and a nice ding in the trunk. And it has 26,000+ miles for it.

I offered the dealer 18,500, with 5 in cash, 13.5 in finance.

What would you all pay for it?

After looking at KBB I would say between $18-$19 would be a decent price.

A few months back I was checking auctions for used Chargers.

It was sick!
I could order a new Charger for CONSIDERABLY less money than the used auction vehicles were bringing.
Needless to say, I didnt buy any.

With the all programs available in MY zone, I could sell a new Charger SXT for $20,915.
And I just pulled up one of my auction listings, and ran a market report:
High $20,262 Ave $18,784 Low $17,306
Plus add a $200-250 buyer fee the dealer pays the auction, and a few hundy for him to get it home...I would be supprised if he takes your offer.

Not sure how dealers are selling these used things for so much money...or why they are buying them....but I would suggest you shop around for a new one a little harder. PLUS, buying new you get FULL warranty, NO scratches, and you can pick/choose your options.

Just giving you a little info...take it for what its worth.

Chargers have been on the road since last June. As a rental, those 26K miles are probably hard miles - my Hertz cars are not driven like my Charger. Before you buy it, have the dealer throw in an extended warranty for no additional charge.

Good luck...

Never-ever buy a rental car. They are abused. Around here most are used to run Drugs. Its sad.

Rentals aren't quite as bad as their reputation. After all, reputable rental companies take good care of stuff like brakes and the engine as they fear lawsuits and of course lose money if the car breaks down somewhere and they have to give you another car.

It's usually the little things that get mistreated - e.g. you get coffee stains on the seat, or the little pastic lever on the A/C vent is broken off etc. But these things are easy to fix.

So what if they were used to run narcotics or in drive-bys? If the car is o.k. what does it matter?

Buying a new car does not guarantee quality and troublefreeness. Every new car has its quirks that need to be worked out first. On a used car with enough miles on it this has already been done.

Besides, every new car has a break-in period during which you can't or shouldn't drive the car hard. Again, a used car is already past its break-in period so you can drive it any way you want.
