Default Pre-Order Question

How do I preorder an 07 to my specifications, if I can even? Do you do it through a dealership? Can I still negotiate the price at all, or is that for cars already on the lot? Any info on preordering would be great, I'm new to this... If you've preordered in the past, please let me know what process you went through and any tricks or advice you have for me. Thanks!

Justin.. Follow these simple steps.

1. Dress for success
2. Enter the dealership and ask to speak to the "Operations Manager" or owner. (Sales manager title is a joke)
3. Explain to the Manager your intent to special order a unit, and that you are willing to pay $500 over his delivery cost. (Remember, his delivery invoice is not the MSRP.)
4. Work with his senior sales person.. developing the order.
5. Smile shake his hand and leave until your called to tell you that your unit has arrived. (Make no payment until delivery)
6. Inspect delivery invoice, Add 500 dollars.. Sign your paperwork..
7. Go play.

If the dealer even hints to being unwilling to meet your expectations, go find one that will. You certainly will find one.

Good luck.

I spoke to my dealer about ordering a 07 Charger and he said it was no big deal, they do require a small deposit, which is reasonable considering they are ordering a car to your specs and not for their lot.
He said if I ordered now it would be around the end of August before it came in. I am still trying to decide between ordering an 07 or getting an 06 TorRed Daytona off the lot.

The negotiations work exactly the same as if you bought one sitting there.

Any salesman can help you.
When you are sitting at the desk to build your new vehicle, have him/her show you the price sheet they get off "DealerConnect TOPS".

Look towards the bottom of the prices.. You will see something like this... The number I use here are totally ficticous - but you get the idea.

HB FFP EP
1004 31,355 30,754

Now find the total FWP (Factory Wholesale Price) and subtract the number under 'HB'..this is the dealers true cost.
Let the dealer add his $300-$600 mark-up and now you know what you are really paying. Plus, any factory rebates come off of that price.

FYI... as of this minute 2007 pricing is not available.

If I knew how, I would attach one of these spec sheets for you.

Thanks Dodgedlr for the great info. I am considering ordering an 07 from my local dealer and he said that both the TorRed paint and the Road & Track Performance group showed "late availability" for 2007. Do you have any insight into what time frame that could be?

Cheers,

Brad

Thanks for the info Dodgedlr...Will these guys willingly show me this sheet during pricing? Is it something I have to ask for basically? Do you have any idea when pricing will be available, and when it is, is that the beginning of order-taking for the 07's? I'm also curious about "late availability". If I order when pricing is available...in say late July...if the TorRed isn't in production until late this year, do I do all the paperwork and everything now, or will they delay that until the vehicle arrives? The reason I'm asking is because I'm a graduating senior from the University of Florida this December...and if the vehicle doesn't arrive until around that time when I start my position...it would be ideal.

Ordering of an '07 is available NOW, pricing is not.. Sounds crazy, but thats how it goes.
We have sold vehicles without knowing a price before.... we just tell people "we charge $300 over cost".
Usually we have a good idea of what kind of increase we can see from year to year.
But I am kind-of out of touch right now....

If something is "late availability" the dealer won't even be able to order it until it is closer to the release date.
But I see TorRed is available for ordering right now...so it should be out soon.
May want to have your dealer do some better checking on that for you.

As far as paper work.. expect your dealer to want a downpayment. If you don't have cash to put down, work with him...since it's early in the model year he probably wouldn't get upset if he was stuck with it...as long as its a saleable vehicle and not equiped too wildly.
We never do paper work until the vehicle is delivered... not sure but that may be a federal law... but also there would be no way to write a contract or get insurance without a serial number.

Depending on how they price thier cars they might just show you that paper anyway, but don't feel like a jerk if you have to ask for it.

Also, when you order a vehicle the dealer has a screen on his computer to assign that vehicle to you...indicating to the factory it is a "sold order" and gets scheduling priority. If pricing or rebates are available when you order and rebates change or the price increases (whatever) while the vehicle is being built, you are guaranteed the better price as long as you take delivery withing 5 business days of the vehicle arriving at the dealership.

I spoke to the salesman yesterday and he said TorRed & Road & Performance Group still show late availability.
This is getting frustrating.
