Went to the track last night - finally
The bad news is that I never went up against anyone I had a reasonable chance against. Every time I ran, it was against really big, 11-12 second cars, and cars that went deeeeep into the 13s. The good news is there is no shame in loosing to them
. I did not experiment with tire pressure - I was running 32 pounds. I thought about lowering the pressure, but if that didn't work, I didn't have the means to pump them back up. I did NOT get the oil changed to Mobile 1 as I had planned, and - I had about 3/4 tank of gas. My reaction times weren't too bad - had a couple that were decent. My 60 foot times is what was killing me. I launched about 2000 rpm (the first run I left it in "D" - all other runs I manually shifted, but not in "paddle" mode - except as noted below). It was also spinning the tires on the first to second shift. Not just a chirp, but a good amount of wheel spin. I never did a burn out - would not, IMO, have produced any better times.
A couple things made themselves present:
1. The altitude here really hurts. The track is at 5310 feet. That really robbs hp.
2. Third gear really hurts. Even against the big cars, I wasn't doing that badly until it went into third gear. It's just too big a jump from second to third and, although it was pulling as hard as it could, it was just spaced too widely.
3. I NEED MORE PRACTICE!!
4. The car was very, very consistent. Except for one run in which I totally messed up, all my ets were, rounding to the tenth, within .1 of each other. Well, maybe .15 or so. I'll post the ets, etc., below.
5. I had a TON of fun!!!!
OK, here's what we were able to do:
R/T = Reaction Time 60ft = my 60 foot time 660ft = et to 660 foot mark
First Run:
R/T = .598 60ft = 2.408 660ft = 9.918 ET = 15.217 @ 92.976 mph
Second Run:
R/T = .214 60ft = 2.340 660ft = 9.993 ET = 15.356 @ 91.430 mph
Third Run:
R/T = .306 60ft = 2.379 660ft = 9.972 ET = 15.316 @ 92.461 mph
Fourth Run:
R/T = .713 60ft = 2.358 660ft = 9.974 ET = 15.329 @ 92.827 mph
Fifth Run (I really messed up here. I programmed it for paddle shift mode, but forgot to raise the shift points and hit the rev limiter
:
R/T = 7.80 60ft = 2.343 660ft = 10.170 ET = 15.609 @ 90.385
Sixth and last run:
R/T = .650 60ft = 2.364 660ft = 9.949 ET = 15.285 @ 93.007 mph
The one car I was pared against that I felt good about was a new Vette. He beat me, but not by that much - maybe 3 car lengths. And, he had to work for it. I got him off the line, but about mid track (close to my shift into third) he caught me and it was bye, bye.
We're supposed to have rain again next weekend, but I want to try this again with about 1/4 tank of gas, Mobile 1 (just to see), and maybe 28 pounds of tire pressure in the rears.
After I stopped running, there were some late model 5.0 Mustangs that were closer to stock. I had them covered on ET. There was a new Monte Carlo SS, and I had him covered by over 2 seconds, but these were very late arivals and I never got the chance to run against them.
I had fun - and that's the point, right? Sorry I couldn't do better to hold up the Charger name, but my friends said I did get good "announcing" from the announcer. I was the only Mopar there, until a late arrival 440 GTX showed up.
The car would make a very good bracket racer. As you can see, it was very, very consistent all night long. I really was hoping to get into the 14s, but the altitude kept that from happening. I don't know if the changes I mentioned above would do it or not, but I will try. I may have to make a trip to Texas just to run in some "heavier" air and see how she does

I was going to say those are horrible times but then I remembered you said it was at 5300feet
If you work on the 60' time and don't spin the tires so much you could probably break into the 13's.

I know you're talking corrected to sea level. I know my 60 foot times were terrible. I may have been better not power breaking and "feeding" the throttle in instead of just mashing it hard. But, geez man, when those "big" cars are next to you, you just want to gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

But its going to be a better race with a superchip, cai, and a 75shot of nitrous and I think I can take him
I will have to say despite the slightly higher ET, that your trap speed were very good. What you were missing on the low end, looks like you were making up for on the high end.

Did you remove those mosquito foggers, or smoke generators before you ran? They do add alittle extra weight...
Oh, man! I knew there was something I was going to do before I raced!
There are several things I could try, including quick shifting out of first into second; or letting her run up to 6000 before shifting into second; or......... So many things to try, so little time.
But I'll try it again and see what happens. Gotta get my 60 foot times down, though.

Hey Scamp - bring on down to Texas. Baytown to be exact. Pretty daumn close to sea level. I`d love to see your car and see what mine could be when I, er , it, grows up lol . Off the beaten path , the rumor is Baytown will only run the `07 season then the Angel Brothers are going to mow the track down and put up sub-divisions.[:'(] . Next big time tack is Dallas. But several 1/8 mile tracks close tho. Maybe I`ll give mine a try.
