I want to take the Daytona to the track; what should I expect?
I'd like to take my Daytona to the track to see what she'll do there. I'm not really interested in racing anyone or making a statement. I just want to see what the car is truly capable of for myself.
Do you get a choose of who you go up against or does the track match you up?
Do they match you with a car of similar capabilities or do you get who ever is next in line?
What's the usual cost?
What sort of safety things are required? Insurance/waivers/etc.?
How many runs do you get?
Are they consecutive or do you get back in line (so to speak)?
What sort of preparation should one make to the vehicle?
Any information is helpfull.

Usually you don't choose who you run
Gateway doesn't match people up yours might.
test and tune at gateway $15.00 race is $25-$35
seat belt and roll and your windows up.. some track require a helmet
slow night 5 or 6.... busy 2 or 3 runs
back in the dreaded line
just check over everything. and bring a small compressor and gauge to adjust your tire pressure.

check out DRAG RACING 101 under "Racing / Recreational" "Street/Strip" Section in the form.
There's everything you need to know and more there.
the number one thing to keep in mind is... go to have fun.
Good luck!

The really serious guys with Hemi's and SRT's all pulled relays and set their fans to run constantly. I guess that the relays and fuses had to do with the ABS system so they could burn out to heat up the tires. The street tires that we run actually lose traction if you do the burnout. Drive around the burnout stop, and do not get your tires wet. You will get a better time.
Check the weather. Try for a cool dry day or night for maximum performance. Last time I was up, the heat & humidity killed my performance.
Lone Star MOPAR Nationals - October 21,22 Houston Raceway Park
They have a Sportsman division, that will actually allow you to race 12.99 ET to 19.99 ET $55 to race with $750 for win!
I will bet you can pick up a few tips there...
Although I do not have any affiliation with this event, this sounds like fun.

The track here charges $12 on Friday and Saturday nights - unless they have a big event going on. Skip the burn out; just get in line and run against whoever happens to be there. I didn't get to run anyone even remotely close to me in class - all 10-12 second cars. But I had a ton of fun!!!!

PS: I'm sure you'll do much better than I did
