Default 1971 D100 Engine Swap

Ive got a 71 D100 that needs a new engine. I was wondering if anyone knows what engines will line up with the motor mounts on this truck. I dont have any way to weld new mounts and im trying to get this thing running with the least amount of money possible.

Yeah sorry there's a 318 in there now but some one told me I could put a 360 or 383 in there with no problem I was just wondering if that's true or if there are any other engines that will fit

the 360 will NOT bolt in. but a few changes it will fit. left motor mount needs to be mount for a truck 360. the mount will bolt in. the torque converter needs from a 360, it is off set weights. chrysler did at one time have weight kit you buy and weld to a 318 converter. a good trans can give you better info. the basic swap rule is the engine parts need to be made for both the engine and frame. the list is to long to list here. the 383 will not bolt to the engine, a diff trans is needed. the frame may have bolt holes for a 383, but the brackets will be diff. be sure the brackets are for a D100-or a200 but NOT biger.

Find a good running 318. They are cheap and easy to find. I like 318's better anyway, they seem to be less picky about how they want to be set up. I could go out to mine after not touching it since april and have it running in 5 min or less. they are wonderful engines, and have alway made plenty of power for me.

I actually just got a 318 in there. The motor mounts are bolted up but I havent attached the fly wheel yet because there was a manual trans on the engine. Do you guys know if that will be a problem? Just to be clear I'm converting it from a manual to auto. The flywheel seems like it wants to bolt up but won't quite slip into the crankshaft so I can put the bolts in.

I'm not exactly sure of what is the issue here, but I have been told that the crankshaft from an auto will not take a manual and vice versa. I would do some searching on here and google and find a good writeup about it. If the motor had a stick behind it, the differences will be in the crossmembers... but you already know that
