Default 1990 Dodge W250 speedometer and overdrive problem

I have a 1990 Dodge W250 4x4 gasoline with 360 F.I. engine and electric overdrive. The speedometer stops and it shifts down to 3rd gear from electric overdrive when this happens. Also, it starts to backfire then if I lug the engine down.Everything in this truck is new or just rebuilt.I'm left with this vexing problem and no one seems to know why.Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Steve

You really wanna be in the first gen ram section.

I think your speedometer is driven by a VSS that should be in the output tailhousing of the transfer case.

I'm new to this. Thank you so much; I'll try there if I can't fix it.
