What do I have?
Its been a month but the old car is back on the rode. I did the breaks, changed the ignition, got all the old gas out and put a new exhaust on it. I had some trouble with the distributor and got it off one cylinder. I moved the wires one spot and it runs great now. Ill get it right when the weather is warmer and dryer. My neighbor helped me with the plug wires and he told me about big magnets on the tank. He sad to put them where the gas flow would go over them. IDK why, but he was helping so I didnt say anything. Anybody know why?
My grampa asked me to show the car to my great aunt. I went by and she wanted to go for a ride. When they got married its the car they went to florida in. She started crying when I started it as it had straight exhaust and the police made my great uncle fix it. She said the loud mufflers took her back to her honeymoon. When I took her home she was crying and hugging me and said she was glad I got the car. She signed the title and gave me all the papers to transfer it. For an old lady shes really strong.

That's probably why she wanted to you have the car. You done good. As for the magnets, with plastic tanks, you don't need them. Metal tanks rust inside and the magnets on the outside will hold rust particles. It will eventually catch the rust so your fuel filter doesn't stop up. I think you have a rear fill tank so put 2 or 3 in a row down the middle on the bottom of the tank. If and when you eventually drop the tank to clean it, there will be rust flowers in the tank.
It's me again. I've got the old car running decent. I've even given my great aunt a couple of rides in it. I have a couple of questions about it though. There is a **** under the dash for the radio. It pulls out and rotates, but doesn't do anything. Anybody know what it is? I also think the engine got out of time. I tured the distributor a bit and got the car home. I found an old manual for it and I think I can replace the timing chain. I cant get the water pump housing off. Theres a water pipe in the way. I tried turning it with pliers and it wants to cave in. Any tips on get

On your engine, you can use a bolt extractor Just slide a bolt down it to keep it from collapsing. These get rusted in place pretty good and between that and thinning of the metal over time, they can be fun to get out. You can then get that last bolt out. These used to be available new so I'd put a new one back in if they are still available.
On the radio, look at your rear window deck. There should be a 6X9 speaker back there. The sun eats them up. I think they are 8 ohm but don't quote me on that. I'm thinking you have a reverb radio system. This is a sort of stereo sound without stereo. You can fade the sound front to rear by turning it and when you pull it out, it delays the signal to the rear speaker a few milliseconds. If you're listening to music, it sounds like a concert hall.People singing or talking though, they sound like they are in a barrel.
Since this covid slowed everything down Ive had time totake care of the engine. My cousin helped me pull the engine so we could clean it up. Ive seen grouchs comments about getting an engine going again and went through it. I could almost take the timing chain off with the gears still on. I got a new timing set and a high volume oil pump. That's what I want right? the freeze plugs were easy to get out. I had a punch to hammer them out but pressing a screwdriver into one and it went through. All new plugs on the block and even the back of the block and heads. There was a gray sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. Anybody know what that is? When I rinsed the block out, I filled a 5 gallon bucket and then some with the rust and sand that came out. Anyway, we got it all back together after two weeks and dropped it back in. That car will scream now.The old tires really cry going around corners.
Next payday Im getting new tires. Any suggestions? I did put a new speaker in the rear deck. I see what its like now. Voices sound weird but straight music is like your in an auditorium.

Looks like you dodged a major issue. The expansion plugs were probably about to start leaking. Usually on a cold winter day when you're in a hurry. That grey goo in the pan is tetraethylead build up. Use gloves or something and don't handle it if you can as it's pretty toxic. Don't flush it down the toilet or throw it in the yard. Put it in a bucket of kitty litter until your local community has a Tox-A-Way day. On the tires, you can go with bias ply or radials. I'd go with radials as they will make the car handle a lot better. You'll probably need to use later model wheel covers. I've had old cars and the wheel covers don't want to stay on. They usually come off at speed. You can put the originals back on at a car show.

An update for the car. It's a non-ram 300K. A local restoration shop polished the emblems and each one has a large k on it. I got some crager wheels and put some firestone 500 tires on it. the restoration shop is going to paint it for me butthey said the left front fender needs to be replaced for a good paint job. It has some old damage that was filled with body putty. What fenders will fit on this?
I looked at the heads and there wasn't any gray goo there. The lab at work tested for lead and it was a reahigh concentration.

I think only two years will fit. 1963 and '64. 1962 and 1965 are completely different body styles. Chrysler was also different than other Mopars. It can be a letter car, Newport, New Yorker, but only those. Imperial used a different body those years.
