Wow. That's bad. EGR failure as well? I would start with a good tune up, and new O2 sensors. (NTK or Denso sensors only please, the Bosch fellers just don't work very well.) Need to figure out what's up with EGR as well. You may have a failed cat.....

Hey thanks for replying I don't believe these came with 02 sensors or catalytic converters but I know that timing is off but it just seems like an insane jump

I did have a backfire through the carburetor

Yeah, 79..... anybodies guess. Is it an electronic carb?? Is there a computer in there anywhere??

Wonder if you just have a sticky float, or some such. Does the engine run good?? Gas mileage taken a dive recently?

Is this electronic ignition or lean burn. I'd retrofit the electronic if you have the lean burn system. Every one of those I've had gave me issues and I converted them all. Being in California it may well have had a cat. Besides that, I'd do a good tune up and get it timed right. How many miles on the engine?

The lil red express trucks where the only vehicles that came without a cat in 78. In 79 all vehicles had them.
