I have a 2000 Dakota SLT quad cab 4X4 with a 4.7. I got this trk from a dealer and the trk belonged to the dearship owner. This 4.7 has pinged since i have had it. I have had the dealer check it and im told they dont hear a thing and they checked the timing.Man are they deaf cuz its a bad ping. Only does it under accealeration or when passensomething on the expressway.I do regular tunes ups, change fuel from low to mid to high octane and it still pings.Thefuel pinghas becomea little louder and the trk has started to use oil. Btw i use mobil one and the trk has 145000 miles on it and still runs like new.Today i installed a set of NGK Iridum plugs and could tell the performance difference right away. But it still pings. This trk came with a towing package if that makes a difference. Im running a K&N air filter in stock intake box. I hope someone out there can give me a word of advice on what to look for and what to do. Appreicate any advise.

Mine did that too. I ended up running colder spark plugs. It hasn't pinged since.

most of us are running factory champions or the autolite 3923 they are a cooler plug that the truck loves. also we swapped out are thermostat for a 180 the stock 195 just did not do it for the 4.7

 

If had just gotting truck from the dealer I would go back and find out if there is flash for your pinging problem.
