motor cuts out
My engine blew in my 99 dokota sport. I put a 2.5 4cylinder, from a 2002 wrangler back in. After installing the engine, the check engine light came on and it began spitting and sputtering around 2500rpms. I had a computer test ran at Auto Zone and they said all the sensors were good, but kept showing a floor sensor which I have no ideal what that is. I got them to reset my computer and bought new plugs, but it is still doing the same thing. In addition to this is wants to die at stopsigns. Does any know if I'm missing something in the electronics or fuel that may cause this? The wrangler motor is a 2.5 H2 compared to my 99's base 2.5, but both are the same AMC motor. I wondered if the variation in horsepower may play a part.
Well thats your problem.....a 4 cylinder. No, I've never done a engine transplant. All I'd say is go over everything again. Oh...wait.....when you stop at a stop sign does the lights dim? Like the dash lights? If so it could be the alternator....but honestly I dont know.
no I kept the same computer in the dokota. I just had it reset. Now it spits and sputters from 2000 2800 rpms. It runs fine it the upper and lower rpms now just that area. I also used the dokota coil pack since the wrangler coil pack was busted.
when you swapped motors did you take evrything? did you use the throttle body of the wrangler 2.5 or the truck 2.5. spitting and sputtering at lights sounds like the throttle positioning sensor. the dak computer might not have the correct paramiters for this motor. reseting the computer doesnt do justice if it is not compatible to the motor. i would see if you can get a hold of the computer out of the wrangler and see if it is any better. also check all the ground wires. you may just have a bad connection.
I used the wrangler's entire intake manifold. The throttle body, sensors, and intake manifold were all intact. The only things I transferred were the motormounts, coil pack, altenator/AC bracket and fuel rail, which had the injectors from the dokota 2.5. I used those injectors because I knew that they were all good, but I thought about them also being a possibility and whether they are completely compatible with the wrangler engine. I basically pulled an entire complete engine and made the changes such as motormounts so it fit into the dokota. The coil pack was broken so I used the one out of the dokota. I then changed the plugs and replaced the roter button. I had AutoZone check my sensors and all it showed was a floor senor but I don't know what that is. They reset the computer but the check engine light is still on. Even though they said the throttle position sensor was good I still wonder about that. I have questioned myself about the coil pack and the injectors also. I didn't know if the wrangler's computer was set to different specs., so I'm kind of in a stupor as where to begin without spending a small fortune replacing each part till I find the problem. I have the factory ground on, but I also ran another ground to the frame to be sure, but it has not helped.
