I have an '02 Dakota, and a few nights ago I started it, and there was this loud ticking noise, but I dont know what it is. It stops about a minute after I start the truck, but then each time I accelerate, the ticking noise comes back. So does anyone know what it is? Or how to fix it?

Kinda sounds like an exhaust leak...but the tickin would always be there and the tick would get fast when you speed up. Does the ticking sound get fast when you accelerate?

 

Yes it gets faster as i accelerate, then stops when i take my foot off the gas.

 

I'd check for some sort of exhaust leak. If its not that, I think someone else had this same problem but I cant remeber what othe people said. Check with the search deal at the bottom of the page, it might help you out a little more too.
