92 dakota ??????
hi guys just about to but a 92 dakota 3.9 4x4 5 spd and i ve got a little tech prob , he says the distribotor is gone? or the timing but he replaced the dist a year ago and the truck ran fine but now only runs sometimes and other times not at all its got over 200 kms on it andd he said that just put a new one in and it will run fine????? just wondering if its that or if the motor is screwed? dont want to buy the wrong vehicle!!(baby on the way and just need a 4x4 to get to work) is there something i should watch out for with these trucks or could it be a simple as replacen the dist? any help would be great !!! thanx guys
Sounds kinda weird! but Iam not gonna say it isnt, its kinda unlikely? Sounds like something electrical at least. I wouldnt necessarily say the motor is skrewed. Sounds almost like the situation that occured to me, except it got the point where the truck quit, wouldnt run or start. Here is what I found, on the drivers side under your fuse/relay box, the cluster of wires running along your fender well hooking into that box, peal the covering away from the wires looking for a connection of 2 wires into 1, it will probably have a green rotting corrosion surrounding the area and be toward the center of all the wires. This Y connection is part of your ignition and it is very common that it'll come apart from the corrosion causing my prob. Just cut the connector out and use a butt connector or similiar connection. My truck would run fine, or cut in and out, from a loose connection there. If thats not the case, check the cap and rotor, it could be worn, or the plug wires could have breaks in them. Hope all this helps
Oh yeah and the timing is adjusted through the distributor, so it could be out of time, but you would be able to tell pretty quick, it would run rough all the time and overheat. One of these wouldnt hurt either, you can get them through most auto parts stores for cheaper than this, http://www.haynes.com/products/searc.../productID/119The bookwill help you on most everything
thanx for the help and i decideed to buy the truck have it home here now but only found one 2 into 1 connection and it did not fix the prob, truck acts like it wants to start then starts up really rough but wont stay running!!! checked the cap rotor wires plugs all look good! in that harness along the fender there is about three , 3 into 1 connections? anyone have any ideas?? and any colour wires i should be looking for? thanx dodge dudes
hey guys really need some help here if you could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i ve got a huge issue !!! truck ran fine!! all wires are good !!! got compression ,spark, and proper fuel pressure!! but still wont start!!!! timing is good , coil is good , wires good spark plugs good! but just cant figure it out!! any ideas???
Truck will not start- A common problem in the trucks, primarly ones made between 1993 thru 1995, was failure (corrosion) of the splice that feeds battery power to the automatic shutdown (ASD) and fuel pump relays. If these relays do not get battery power, your truck will not be able to start. The splice is located underneath the Power Distribution Center (PDC), which is the black box located behind the
battery.

I would replace the cap and rotor just encase and check ur crank sensor
battery.

ya i changed the cap rotor wires plugs (sorry didnt say that before) and all the splices are fine. where is the crank sensor? the guy with the comp said he isnt getting any readings on anything (mechanic) and has been trouble shooting all week now (pet peeve for him ) and wants to find the prob. someone said that my comp could be gone sending messed up signals and i was wondering if there is a way to check the timing chain with out stripin the front of the engine? just need it going got a child due in a couple of months and no job but live to far out in the bounnys to hitch a ride!!!! just need it to run for me !!!! any hints from anybody????
