Default Question

My '98 Dakota squeaks/groans whenever I turn... which is just kinda annoying. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all. Someone suggested maybe it was my tie-rod ends, but then someone else suggested it was something such as the steering gear and/or the ball joints. It's an automatic and it also makes a loud "bump" when I shift into gear, especially when I shift into reverse. I just bought the truck about 2 months ago and on the carfax report, the previous owner had taken it back to the dealer because of all the weird sounds it was making. It also says on the report that the dealer claimed that the truck was fine. So I'm not sure if there really is a problem or not... but if anyone has any idea why it makes those sounds and if there's anything that can be done about it, I would appreciate the info. Thanks so much!
Amanda
