I was having fun with the truck and wanted to see just how good I could get the fuel economy, here is a picture of my overhead console showing the econ in US MPG. This is not a doctored picture either and the truck was running while I got this. How I managed to get this is not practical for the real world but is fun to do.

All i did to get that mileage reading was to find a really long hill with a decent grade (about 2km long) got it up to about 80kmh then coasted in drive all the way down. And you have to reset the mileage avg right before you hit the hill. I was only able to break 40 once

Last tank I got 9 mpg. I think its my lead foot, but I'm sure I don't drive any different than some of you guys.

I get 13-15 city and 17-19 highway. And as for the highest trip computer mileage reading i have had mine maxed at 99.9 mpg. The way I did it was find that same hill and put the tranny in neutral. Yes i know it is somewhat illegal to drive in neutral but I was curious to see what would happen

Today I drove 100% highway to see the best mileage I could get on the way home. It was about 100km/h average or 60mph with some moderate inclines/declines.

The truck averaged 20.4mpg over this 40km (25 mi.)stretch with normal air conditioning on (notmax).

It is a '98 5.2L extended cab 4x4 (30k miles!) with tonneau cover, full tank of gas, about 100 lbs of pallets in the back, new NGK FR5-1 plugs, new Fram air filter, new Amsoil synthetic ATF and Castrol 5w-30 engine oil. Otherwise totally stock. I though that was decent considering the factory claimed 12mpg city, 17mpg highway.

By the way, the factory Champion plugs still looked new. Could have easily gone another 10k miles.

Nate
