Default Won’t start

So I replaced the engine In a 2004 Dodge Dakota 3.7, With a 3.7 out of a 2005 Dodge ram 1500 everything was the same sensor wise , And it wouldn’t start it would backfire like it was out of timing. I took it to a dodge dealership (not taking there word) they said that it was a 32 tooth crank and the Dakota ran off of 16 tooth system. And with that It would never run without changing the crank is there anyway around this with the computers ? I have the computer the truck came with not the Ram computer not sure if there the same

The two systems are totally different, and not compatible with each other. Changing the crank would actually be easier......
