Sound systems for Dakota extended cabs?
I just purchased a new Dakota 4.7L 4x4 extended cab. I was wondering what kind of sound system would best fit in the truck based on the amount of room that Ihave. I would prefer to keep the back seat open. I don't think that there is really much that I can do, but if anyone knows of anything can they let me know. I am also interested in exhaust systems to transform into a duel exaust.
im in a very similar position. I know there are boxes that replace the underseat storage area in the back with i think 2 10's, for about 200 bucks on ebay. Idont know anything about them or what they sound like, just that they exist. In my search for exhaust, i am looking into a local guy who is gonna charge 400 for duals and a flowmaster. my buddy has a gibson on his 6 and it sounds terrible. id hope it sounds better on an 8, but who knows. I think ill stick with flowmaster. dependin on where you are, i could prob get him to bend up 2 and ship it to you or something...most kits ive found make you lose the spare...
The most important thing you should consider in choosing a kick *** sound system is making sure it doesn't make you look more like a potatoe. That being considered, also make sure it is loud as hell so that you can blast the sound track from the Punisher movie over and over again.
depending on how much money you want to spend, JL Audio makes a stealth box that fits under the rear seat. If you are not into total truck rattling bass, then get a set of quality components for the front and rear and get a powerful amp to power them. that will make your system loud and not take up to much space. I have an '02 quad cab dakota with 6.5 inch components in the front, and 8" JL Audio free air in the rear doors, all run by a JL Audio amp. All fits behind the stock door panels.
Also depending on how much money you want to spend you can have 6" subs placed in the doors. You would probably have to have custom pannels made but it would sound pretty sweet and depending on how you have the door pannels made it could look sweet too.

I have a 1996 v6 magnum and I put a Kicker L5 Solobaric 12inch on the back seat, right behind the driver seat. This is about 14 inches wide so space is still there for 2 full size adults. then, I have 2 amps under and behind the driver seat because I do not move this seat to let in passengers. And there is the radio and the preamp in the dash.
Sounds Great.

MTX makes a custom box that goes under the back seat of the dakota extended cab, I had one in my dakota, it has 2 10" subs and a built in amp (you can get it without the amp as well), it fits in nicely under the seat replacing the current tray there, has a spot for the jack to go and even has cup holders like the factory tray, it sound pretty good, probably would be better with some better speakers and amp but it's a nice solution if you don't want to lose your back seat.
