Default Newbie here

Hello all, I've been reading this forum for a while now and I thought I'd better join in the fun!

A quick intro;

My name is Dean, I'm 20 and I live in Surrey, England and I own a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9.

It's had a Flowmaster muffler on it, and goes into 2 3" tips. sounds nice just deciding what to do next to it, really waiting for money! lol I'm lucky enough to work in a Chrysler parts department.

I took these pictures about 1 week ago at a show I help run. I also own a 1965 Valiant Barracuda (Canadian version if your interested) and two pontiac sunbirds (they'll be going shortly as I have too many cars! lol)

Just thought I'd say howdy. You guys have some ace trucks here

Well before I stripped my barracuda down I was running a decently tuned 318 with nos , then I noticed the rust and it had to come apart, just as well coz it was riddled with filler. I think a decent cam and intake mods plus a chip would do nicely on the dak.

Welcome. I have a few questions: did you buy the truck in the US and ship it over? Did you do the needed mods to drive it in England yourself ? (I noticed the rear fog, the amber turn signals where the stock reverse lights are.. I think that's what it is)

I've never been to England other than a layover in Heathrow, but I've been to Spain and Ireland and I know that a Dakota would stick out like a sore thumb there, I'd imagine it's the same in England?

Hi Gutted,

Most are imported by dealers as its quite a lot of hassle to do it yourself. Cars built after 1996 have to pass Single Vehicle Approval which means it complies with all the Euro specs. The most obvious ones are ones you've already spotted ie. Fog Lights amd Amber Turn Signals (mine still has the clear lenses in the Reversing lights, just uses amber bulbs) which then need a replacement reversing light.
All of the Dakotas that I looked at before buying mine were actually Canadian models, so we've got KPH clocks but as they also have MPH in smaller letters they pass SVA (Japanese inmports need thier clocks changed to read MPH). It seems that at the time most of them were imported (mines a 2000), the exchange rate was better on the Canadian $ over the US$. Luckerly, they don't mind Left Hand drive which would be a real pain and expence as just passing SVA normaly costs the best part of £1000 depending on what needs changing. LHD isn't as much of a problem as you might think, except for paying for parking and tolls!
The Dakota DOES stick out over here, (one of the reasons I bought it!) but not as much as a Ram. I did look at one of those but as I sometimes need to drive in central London I decided against it, plus it wouldn't fit in my garage!

Regards,

Paul
