Default 92 Dakota Starting Problem

My Dakota started to rough idle a few weeks ago, bogging down and then backfiring then be fine. Then filled the tank and put some top engine cleaner and injection cleaner in it. Was driving a couple of days later and died on me took a couple of minutes to crank it back up and go on my merry way all the while still bogging down. Then driving a different day, just died on me, towed it to my warehouse, tried cranking it again, started up then died. Changed the coil cuz it felt like it wasn't getting any spark. That was not it, so I go to work on it this weekend, the ignition won't engage the starter, turn the key and the idiot lights come on and amps for the battery show up and are with in reason, but nothing, doesn't even crank over now... Stranded without a pot... Please some advice, some helpful advice...

Thanks whoever already...!!!

Well, since you said it won't engage the starter (which I'm assuming you mean the starter solenoid doesn't even make a "click" noise), I would check all the fuses. Than, I would swap out the starter relay with another known-good relay
If that does not solve it, I would check for battery voltage at the relay. I would than have a helper hold the key in the Start position and test for battery voltage at the ignition switch input of the battery relay.
Another thing worth-while is to check "the splice." More information is located at this link. (See "My truck will not start")
Let us know what you find out.

The bogging down and backfiring sounds like bad gas/water in the fuel. I've had that problem more than once and sometimes 1 can of gas cleaner is not enough. Dodgerules86 had some good suggestions re: won't turn over. [sm=signs003.gif]
