3" exhaust system
Hey guys, I need a little more help now. I found a nice 3" exhaust system for my 1998 dodge dakota 3.9L. Its made my dynomax and it is relaticely cheap. $230. Its from the cat back, and im guessing it should sound good. it has an ultra flo muffler on it. should i buy it and install it, or do you think 3" for a 3.9L will be a waste?
Well, one thing's for sure....It'll be loud!!! I will caution you though, you may lose any off the line power you had. Going with too large of pipe will cause the velocity in your system to slow down and rob the bottom end scavenging. I tried the same type of setup a few years back on a Ford with a 5.4. Top end was great, but towing/hauling really suffered.
Sounds like the old Dakota R/T cat-back that came on them stock. The 1998 series came with the Ultra Flo muffler and a chrome tip.Might be alittle muchpipe size for that 3.9 pal. You might do better with a free flowing muffler on what you have.
