OBD II Connector Pinout Help
Could someone with an ~2000 Dakota 4.7 check the wire colors and locations on their OBD-II Connector. The connector is marked with real faint numbers at each corner. (1, 8, 9, & 16) You may need a mirror or push the connector from the metal bracket. I have a new connector but can't find a wiring diagram. I diagram from someone that has access would be great also. Thanks

RE: OBD II Connector Pinout Help
Thanks alot for the pinout table, but I really need the wire colors also. My connector was completely torn off. I know which 8 wires go to the connector, but not their positions. There is also confusion because the table indicates only 7 wires when mine has eight.

RE: OBD II Connector Pinout Help
In the picture, under "Circuit" it will tell you the color of the wire.
For instance:
Cavity 2. Function is PCI Bus. Circuit reads, "D25 20VT/YL" The actual circuit is D25. 20VT/YL means its a 20 gauge wire that is violet with a yellow tracer.
Also, I believe the only "manditory" wires are:
Pin 4 is ground
pin 5 is "signal ground"
Pin 16 is power.
Depending on vehicle type, other wires could be there.
See this article.
For instance, the only thing common between a 2000 Neon, a 1996 Dakota, a 2001 Dakota, and a 2005 Dakota is:
Pin 4, 5, 6, 7, and 16.
4, 5, and 16 are all listed above as "manditory".
Pin 6 is usually listed as "SCI receive" and pin 7 is always listed as "SCI transmit"
*Don't ask my what SCI actually means, I'm trying to find that out myself*

RE: OBD II Connector Pinout Help
Thanks again. Got connector wired up and installed. Took a WAG at the extra Wht/Grn wire position. It appears to be a + lead from the interior light and radio circuit. I know this because when I let it touch ground, the fuse blew. I'll check it with the scan tool and see if it works.

RE: OBD II Connector Pinout Help ATTENTION 4.7 DAKOTA OWNERS
Well...........Transmission shop says that the scan tool will not communicate with the TCM. It works fine with the ECM. I'm afraid the diagnostic connector is still not wired right. The mysterious white/green wire may be the problem. I think the only way to know for sure is to get hold of a wiring diagram or have a member of this forum check their connector.
Would a member with a 2000 Dakota 4.7 with the 45RFE tranny look at their diagnostic connector and report the wire colors and pin locations? It will be located directly under the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash. Their is a link including a picture of the connector in one of the responses to this post. THANKs MUCH in advance.
